RFID reader RS232

Hi,

I need to know whether we need to use IC MAX232 to connect the RFID reader (using DB9 pin) with PIC?

RFID Reader voltage signal is RS232. (-12V to 12). So, need MAX232 to convert RS232 to UART. Ex, Lesson RFID Reader.
