Different between Xbee and Wireless UART

Postby hannming » Mon Jun 30, 2014 3:57 pm

Hello there,

I have some doubt regarding the differences between Wireless UART (http://cytron.com.my/viewProduct.php?pc ... ame=433MHz RF (UART) Transceiver Module-1km) and Xbee.

May I know what is the different between these two (Pros and Cons)?
Any what is the limitation of both of them?
As a newbie to microcontroller (Arduino), which is most suitable?

Thank you for kind seniors who like to share their experiences to me.

i'm also a beginner in these hardware. my tips:-
1. pin voltage, 3.3v @ 5v.
2. communication distance, 100m, 200m, 1km...
3. interface protocol. UART, SPI, I2C...

There are quite some differences between these two devices, or three.
OK, basically we divide them into two categories as XBee have several type of module: series 1, series 2 and WiFi. Wireless UART also have two types, 434MHz and 433MHz with different wireless range.

Will bold the Wireless UART (RF) and put bracket for (XBee)
Operate Voltage 5V (3.3V)
Hardware Breadboard compatible (requires special breakout board due to 2mm pin)
Configuration No configuration for basic use (requires minor configuration)
Multipoint Not really tested (Support, but further configuration is needed)
Distance 100 meters & 1KM (30 meters & 750 meters)

That should be it. Both are suitable for Arduino, If you choose XBee, you can get the XBee Shield, you choose the wireless UART, check the Wireless UART with Arduino
