M type is momentary and L type is Latching.

M type will change the output state once the transmitter change the state. In other words, if you are using push button at transmitter to transmit logic, once the button is release the M type will change the output state too.

L type will hold the output state when it receive another state change from transmitter. In other words, if you press the push button at transmitter, the L type will active the output. but when you release the push button at transmitter, the L type will hold the active output until you press and release the push button at transmitter site.

Depend on your application and design.
