need help with transformer

Postby tekiding » Thu May 10, 2012 2:34 am

i want to build a stimulator, but the schematic i got doesnt state the voltage for the transformer, only got 17t - 44t...and also the diode use also got no detail....anybody got a clues about that?really appriciate and thanks.

Are you talking about "TENS" circuits?

Though the voltage of the transformer is not stated, the number of turns on the transformer is given. For this type of project you have to wind your own transformer...

yes,u r right.., thank you for replying...,but how to wind the transformer? using what? is it using a magnet and wire..,just make 17turn to 44turn just like in the pic i attached? hurm, any idea where to get the electrodes or something similar like that?
also in the circuit diagram pic,how about the diode that i circle? how to determine or identify the diode use..

The coils are wound on a ferric ring as in the second picture in red square. From the picture the primary use thicker wire (17t) and secondary use thinner wire(44t). You can buy the enamel copper wires from electrical/electronic shops.

you may use 1N5819 for D3 and 1N4148 for D4 and D5.

Beware of the electrical shock as it could be quite strong, and dont try it on children.

im really glad and really thankful...and ur warning will be noted.
just to confirm...17t mean 17turn right?
this ferric ring can be bought at jalan pasar right?
how about the output a.k.a the anode cathode electrodes...any ideas or clues or suggestion?
thank you again..., :D

Yes, 17t is 17 turns.
Not sure, but you can get them from old TV or old monitor PCB.
Try Guardian and ask for OMRON electronic massager pads.

I found this warning and it's important that you know it.....

ouh..thanks again...really helpful...where do u get all the info...try google it but not much usefull..,
ferric ring is round magnet right?just like this http://www.weiku.com/products/3123215/ring_magnet.html
and about the wire,i google it then found this page http://www.whimsie.com/gauge%20wire.html so how to choose from gauge 2 until 36 for the 17t(thicker wire) and 44t(thinner wire)?
as i said in the thread for "DS1307 RTC interface with PIC16F877A" is it possible to integrate between this two circuit..,the buzzer will replace switch 1 in this stimulator.when the alarm is activated,it will trigger the stimulator..
in theory the PR12 will act as switch 1 in stimulator whereas the stimulator act as buzzer/alarm.

ferric ring is not magnetic ring. Ferric is made of compressed iron powder. It will not attract small screws or nails. There are some descriptions on this link:

Weekend Projects with Bre Pettis: Make a Joule Thief - Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories
http://www.evilmadscientist.com/article.php/joulethief

The copper wires used in this project is commonly called as SWG wires or transformer wires in electrical shop. The bigger the SWG number the smaller the diameter the wire. For your project, I think the wire is about SWG 30. Here we normally use British terms. SWG=standard wire gauge and AWG=American wire gauge.

Cannot comment on this one as I am also not sure. Why not just do the thing that you can do and worry about that later? May be some other members here can solve that for you.

If you describe the purpose of this project may be we can give you better suggestion to accomplish your goal.

thanks for this info.i found this..its the right one right?

Allen

so for both 17t and 44t use wire SWG 30??

from the link u gave me,i see they only use ordinary wire right?and then can it replace the transformer from my cct? if can,do i need to do adjustment/add resistor and transistor to the cct diagram connection?

my idea is actually like the vibration pillow,is to wake up people from their sleep.but instead using a vibration,i want to use a stimulator.so im trying to build an alarm clock using PIC16F887A but i want to changing the sound into a stimulator. so when the alarm time has come,it will triggered the stimulator, hope u get what i mean..thanks

Your idea will not work as the TENS electrodes need direct skin contact on the arms , legs and back. Take a look at the commercial units :

Omron TENS Massager HV-F128 - TENS Device - Home User - Medical Supplies - Welch Allyn | Littmann Stethoscopes MEDSHOP AUSTRALIA
http://www.medshop.com.au/omron-tens-ma ... -f128.html

Omron TENS Machine
http://www.sportstek.net/omron-tens.htm

If you want a vibrating pillow, you should get ideas from the handphones vibration mode or the PS2 joystick.... 8-) like the link here:

HowStuffWorks "PlayStation Controller"
