LM7815 or zener diode

Postby ezni.husni » Mon Feb 04, 2013 5:32 pm

i would like to ask which option is more convenient to use whether Zener Diodes 1W 12V or regulator LM7812.
i have a condition where i am going to use the DC supply around 24V 10W tap from the solar panel to power up the simple basic UPS.
for the battery, i will put 12V rechargeable battery.
how should i trim the voltage for battery charging circuit around 12V and i am not sure about the Watt.
a) use Zener Diodes 1W 12V
or
b) use the LM7812 regulator.

i would like to modify the attachment circuit, instead of using AC supply i am going to use DC supply.
