Power bank as battery for robots?

Hi, I suddenly have a crazy thought. I'm thinking about whether the power banks that we used to recharge our smartphones can be used as battery for robots or power source for any projects? I mean it's basically another battery with Li-ion, NiMH or LiPo battery inside, so why don't we use it?

Sure, why not. You just need to strip out a USB cable and extract the VCC and GND wires.

What if I just keep the powerbank and modify the USB head into JST-XH head or tamiya connector head? By the way, which kind of head is better suit for this kind of battery? Is there anything has to be reminded before modifying?

Not sure how is the power bank is designed.

Since it is used to charge smart phones for long talk time and during travelling. I guess the voltage and current output from the power bank are regulated and controlled as handphones seldom need more than 5V DC or 500mA for charging. Your robot may need 7.6V or maybe 12V for the motors' operation. So make sure that the voltage and current output from your power bank are correct before purchasing the device.
