LSS05 with PIC 16F877A

Postby silveroblado » Mon Aug 15, 2011 3:30 am

I wanted to ask can LSS05 be used with SK40C (PIC 16f877a) instead of MC10A??

The other thing i wanted to ask is, as LSS05 has 5 sensors lines (outputs) and 1 Calibration line (output)......if I want to connect LSS05 directly to PIC, where to connect Calibration line??

And the last thing being, can I use the outputs from the 5 line sensors and connect them to an OR Gate (IC).......so that when ever there is dark color detected by any sensor, The output from OR Gate (IC) will be High (true) (1)??

I want to know this as I am detecting any Black spot in a straight line, want to use IR set, But can get accurate values using it!!!

Help would be really appreciated, I have only 15 days left to submit my FYP!! So kind off Urgent!!

Thanks a Lot!!

Ermm.... never use that sensor before.

I think just direct connect to any input of PIC pin, that is the output of LSS05.

For the calibration, connect to any output of PIC. that should be good enough. Try it and see.

hahah!!I have not bought the sensor........I want to buy it!!Its not that cheap that i can buy just for testing!!I send email to cytron tech dept. they told me to discuss on the forum........

The main problem i have is, that i dont have enough pins left for all the LSS05 sensors........I can just adjust 2 pins!!so wanted to know can the output of LSS05 be connected to OR gate chip..........

And the calibration line, whats its use if there is calibration button on the LSS05 it self!!??

LSS05 is digital output line sensor. You may connect the output 1 to 5 directly to any digital input pin of your PIC. The calibration pin is for initiate the calibration of sensor, it act same as the calibration button on LSS05, giving low and further high logic to Calibration pin will start the line calibration, just like pressing calibration button. So, if you can press the calibration button manually, you can ignore that pin.

the output pin of LSS05 can be connected to any CMOS/TTL device, include OR gate, but not sure what you can do it you connect all will OR gate.

hi ,

LSS05 has 5 pieces of sensor for u to detect color brightness. if u wan any of the sensor detecting will give high output, sure u can connect a or gate ic for it.
the calibration can be done manually by button or controlled by controller using the calibration signal line.

if u need a better range of detection recommend u another sensor:

Medium range Infrared Sensor

Thank You.........I need LSS05 as I am detecting a square surface around 4-5 cm (breadth), having black spots on it, when ever black spot is detected spray paint is activated to cover up that spot.......if i use other sensors, its only one piece and then i will have to connect them togather and ol.......making my detection mechanism messy.......so I have planned to use LSS05 which is around 4-5 cm long......and it can detect the whole surface togather..........and most of my PIC 16F877A pins have been used up by other components, so there is just 2 pins left..........so the output of OR gate would be used as input for my PIC.........when ever any black spot is detected any 1 of the 5 sensors on LSS05 will send 1 to the OR gate........whose output will be 1 on my PIC and it will activate my spraying mechanism!!

Today I recieved my LSS05!!I wanted to ask when dark line is detected the sensor sends 0 or 1 to the PIC??as if 1 need to order OR gate and if 0 need to order AND gate!!

if u use it in default dark on mode, the sensor will give 1 if it detect dark surface.

unless u change it to light on mode, the sensor will give 1 if it detect bright surface.
