UIC00A problem with DSPIC30F6015 programming

Postby zulazfar86 » Mon Oct 04, 2010 3:51 pm

hi..i bought the old UIC00A to program DSPIC30F6015..when i checked the user manual it not support this chip.. i tried connect all the connection (Vpp,PGC,PGD,Gnd) and powered with 5V..when i opened the pickit2 software, sometimes it detect and sometime unsupported part.. when i check communication back sometime it detect and sometimes not..is it because it cant support the DSPIC30F6015?

is there any method so this programmer can support the chip?e.g update firmware or else..if can i dont want to buy the new UIC00B because i just need it for programming only..not the added function..tq

dsPIC30F6015? This seem to be SMD package type of dsPIC. Though it can support 5V operating voltage, but because it is SMD part, never try it before. I got myself an UIC00A too back in 2008, use it until now, no problem. Recently get myself another UIC00B because wanted to play with 3.3V PIC. Works fine! happy with it.

Anyway I have been using UIC00A to load dsPIC30F3014, 4013, no issue found. I think the 6015 should be in the support list. The User's Manual of UIC00A only listed model that being tested by Cytron, not the support list. If it detect, the programmer should be supporting it. Will it be your connection? Unstable connection will most probably the root cause of unstable reading and loading program. Tambah pulak, this is SMD part....... is not easy to solder it. Any photo on the setup?

you need some additional circuit to make the 3.3V, dspic30 voltage is 3.3V if i am not mistaken. Check the original pickit 2 datasheet and constuct the missing part. You can get the 2nd ver from cytron or microchip directly through microchipDIRECT or microchip regional sales centre. It should be very cheap by now as microchip is trying to phase out pickit 2. Hope this helps

Usually the operating voltage range for dsPIC30F is between 2.5 to 5.5V. As robosang mentioned, UIC00A user manual only listed the PIC models that have been tested by Cytron, not the total supported parts. However, we have used dsPIC30F6013A internally. It's working fine. So your dsPIC30F6015 should work too.

Check this out. Look for the What's New! Get the update/fix and try again. Maybe that helps.

So the first version of cytron's pickit 2 clone can program a 3.3V device? or a device that can operate till 5V? just to clear my confusion :)

Er.... I did uses UIC00A to program 3.3V PIC before, but need to add zener diode to lower down the signal voltage at PGD and PGC just to be safe  The Vdd cannot be connected. I never test direct connection. Maybe you can try and let us know....

Hahaha... tried.... with MPLAB.... my DSPIC is safe but not allowed to program due to too high voltage XD **it's my friend's test** hahahaha

What voltage is too high? The PGD and PGC?

most likely its PGC and PGD, didnt really measure it at that time....
