regarding of my project

Postby fareed » Thu Nov 18, 2010 11:25 am

currently my project exactly the same as PR7,Controlling Stepper Motor Using SD02B but with stepper motor minebea type 17PM-K508-G1ST. now im using Adapter Teletron TMC-500 PMAD-TMC-500PM, Output: 1.5V-12V DC 500mA. if i using Adapter 12V 1A, AD-12-1, is there any increasing in torque? and also can i use the adapter of 24V? is it effect the motor drive and motor?

Higher ampere will provide higher torque, but that actually depend on the load, not the source if the source already able to to supply sufficient current. Check the spec of stepper motor, what is the coil resistance and rated current. higher voltage will increase the current across the coil as the resistance of coil if fix, V = IR; R fix, V increase, I will increase. But it will heat up your stepper motor and further shorted the live of it. Besides, you need to ensure the driver and circuit can sustain 24V.

hello and good day,
i wish to enquire some information regarding my final year project..my project is about controlling a two link robotic arm which requires stepper motor to move the arm. Here are some description on my projects:
a) motor = stepper motor
b) driver motor = SD02B
c) UART communication = UC00A
d) Microcontroller = PR7 board
e) sensor = Potentiometer
f) Controller = Laptop

i wish to know how do i connect the potentiometer to the shaft of the stepper motor and how can i know the movement of the shaft through LED display such as in PR24?..i understand there is no need for feedback for stepper motor but my lecturer insists there should be a sensor to check the rotation of the motor to avoid slip from happening. The problem now is can i include LED display on PR7??. and how do i program them using MATLAB?.

thousand thanks in advance for your kind advice and suggestions

You can latch a coupling to connect stepper output shaft and potentiometer just exactly like PR24. But you need to design the joint so that such mechanism can be mounted.

LED display? I think you're talking about LCD here.. Since you're using potentiometer, you can read the analog value of the potentiometer using the uC, then display the value in the LCD. To include LCD to PR7, just refer to other DIY projects which are using LCD. See how they're connected to the PIC, learn the program and integrate the LCD function from those DIY projects to PR7.

Matlab? No experience using it...sorry! :P
