power factor correction using PIC

Postby fazwiah » Wed Feb 09, 2011 3:48 pm

hello evry1,,
i'm currently striving to finish my fyp.i bought all the component from cytron since they provide very fast service. ;)
my project is using ACS712(current sense breakout board) to sense the phasor value of current, and a VT to sense the voltage.i need to find the angle between I and V.these 2 signal ll be sent to the comparator in the PIC.PIC send data to LCD(indication) and turns on which capacitor is needed to improve the pf.my question is:
1.i don't really understand how can i install the ACS712 correctly thru the line(240V,50Hz).my idea is that i connect the Ip+ pin to LIFE, and LIFE out back thru Ip-.is it correct?can i hv the bi directional current value by doing this?
2.i need a coding for PIC16F877A,,can somebody teach me how to control my parameters (cos theta,Qc,etc)??i've viewed mr shahrul blog n it really helps, but i still can't relate it to my project.
i'm kinda desperate to finish my fyp.tanks cytron to help me.and to all the experts i found in here! :D

Yes, it can. ACS712 can measure bidirectional current. I have test this, at 0A, the output at 2.5V. When current + direction, output increase, when current opposite direction, output decrease. Since the current value not important, just need the positive and negative cycle, the output can goes to comparator before PIC or can use internal PIC Comparator.

Thanks for views my blog. Voltage signal also same as current signal, can feed to comparator. Then PIC read these 2 pulse to measure the time difference between voltage edge and current edge.
