I have seen microprocessors like 6809 and 6809E sharing one crystal oscillator for synchronization reason. But never seen PICs doing that. What's the reason to share resonator? Aren't they very cheap parts? Can you ellaborate?

If you look at the datasheet of 16F628 at section 17.6 "Timing Diagrams and Specifications". The output freq. of OSC1/CLKIN is equal to the resonator frequency whereas OSC2/CLKOUT is 1/4 of CLKIN. If you connect the CLKIN of the 1st PIC to the CLKIN of the 2nd PIC through a non-inverting buffer. They should be able to share one clock source.

Anyone care to confirm?

if pic share resonator, space of circuit can be save..

You can put crystal overlap with PIC 40pin, the crystal can place inside the 40pin socket.
