MPLAB XC Compilers

Microchip has revised their line of C compilers again, this time they have relabelled it MPLAB XC.

The XC8 covers 8-bit PICs from 10F to the 18F. The lite version is free, the standard version is $495, and the pro version is $995.

Meanwhile, for the 32-bit version they have the XC32 too.

I will invest on the standard edition of the XC32 if I collect enough funds though. :)
PIC - UIC00B from Cytron (replacement for my broken PICKit 2), Pickit 3, MikroC for PIC
dsPIC - MikroC for dsPIC, mikromedia board (dsPIC33)
AVR - AVR Dragon
Parallax - Prop tool

I have downloaded both the XC8 and XC32 (240 megabytes).

For the XC8 the binary (hex file) is exactly the same as for the Hitech C 9.80.
The compiler manual is better at least it contains more pages.

That's a good news! Really annoying that we have to make some changes if we want to migrate from one series to another although they are all 8-bit ;)
