which PIC can i use to build a timer?

Hi,I'm a beginner. I'm going to build a timer which can perform switching operation at certain time interval that has been set and using the relay as output. Can it be done? Which PIC can i use? PIC16F877A? any suggestion on hardware list or any tutorial referral?

I think most pic will time internal timer for u to use
