Problem with arduino mega

Hi all,
previously i'am using arduino duemilanove. its work fine until i spoil it
well, in order to get a new arduino i bought an arduino mega.
the problem is my pc cannot detect the arduino. new hardware wizard also not detect the arduino. an when i try to install the driver (drivers/FTDI USB Drivers) but still not working. the USB serial port is not there..
do someone know how i can overcome this problem?

which model of Arduino Mega you are using? I don have Mega, just get an cheap arduino Duemilanove, working fine, din abuse it

This is because Arduino Mega 2560 does not use FT232 as the USB to UART bridge, it uses the proprietary driver which Arduino team develop themselves, you need to refer to datasheet or this official site of Arduino Mega 2560.

I don think you install the correct driver in this case? The link you provide is software to load DFU to the USB chip on Arduino Mega, not the driver. I get this from Arduino site:

On Windows 7 (particularly the 64-bit version), you might need to go into the Device Manager and update the drivers for the Uno or Mega 2560. Just right click on the device (the board should be connected to your computer), and point Windows at the appropriate .inf file again. The .inf is in the drivers/ directory of the Arduino software (not in the FTDI USB Drivers sub-directory of it).

Met the same problem here. I tried specify the file path of the driver of the "unknown device" (Arduino Mega),
however, it says it is still unable to driver software of the device.

Can anyone help? Its quite frustrating where got this new item on hand but can't use it.
