G15 servo Motion Quality

Hi,

I'm trying to use my G15 to build a panning tripod head, I've set it up no problem but the motion quality is very jerky or keeps stop/starting and then jumping forward at low speeds. I've tried wheel mode and normal positioning but the problem persists for speeds of (say) 5, I've also tried all 4 G15 units I have with the same result.

Is there a servo motor assembly that you stock that you would recommend that has speed and direction control and very good motion quality? I'm very reluctant to end up using geared down stepper motors for this application due to the size and weight.

Thanks,

John.

May be you can try to adjust the Compliance Slope and Punch values (A, D and E) to smooth your rotation in such slow speed.

Hmmm, thanks for the suggestion, I've just tried playing with that, I can certainly make the motor oscillate badly and overheat - but as yet no drastic improvement in motion quality - I'll try some more when its cooled down.

Any suggested values for them or just try until something suites?

May I know the speed value you set?

I'm trying to move in the speeds of around 1 to 15, 0.098 - 1.47 RPM - preferably slow - which is why I think I'll end up with a different motor or a gearbox, or both.

Backlash isn't too much of an issue as it only really needs to move smoothly (constant velocity) in one direction for a fixed period of time.

Thanks for any insights :)

I have tried to change the punch, margin and slope values within the speed 0-15 but I can't get smooth rotation too. The slowest smooth rotation speed I get is 30 (no values changed on punch, margin and slope). I think the angle feedback resolution of the servo limit the rotation smoothy in slow speed.

A380 - thanks for your help, looks like I'll need some different setups.

So does anyone experience with :-

And

http://www.cytron.com.my/viewProduct.php?pcode=MD10C

Would that enable good motion quality at low, known controlled speeds using an arduino?

Should be ok with high gear ratio DC motor. U can try stepper motor also which don't need feedback control
