Servo Motor Shaking

Postby domdom » Sat Jul 07, 2012 3:45 pm

Hi All,

I am using SC16A servo motor controller to drive 12 sets of servo motor (Tower Pro MG995) with Power supply of 5V & current limit 5A.
Sometimes I feel some of the servo motors are shaking whenever I change their rotation. If all the motors are not shaking, the total current consumption would be ~0.08A. When one of the motor is shaking, it might shoot up to ~0.3A.

Below are the specs of the motor:
Specification shown:
Control System: +Pulse Width Control 1500usec Neutral
Required Pulse: 3-5 Volt Peak to Peak Square Wave
Operating Voltage: 4.8-7.2 Volts
Operating Temperature Range: -20 to +60 Degree C
Operating Speed (4.8V): 0.20sec/60 degrees
Operating Speed (6.0V): 0.19sec/60 degrees
Stall Torque (4.8V): 9kg.cm
Stall Torque (6.0V): 11kg.cm
Operating Angle: 45 Deg. one side pulse traveling 400usec
360 Modifiable: Yes
Direction: Clockwise/Pulse Traveling 1500 to 1900usec
Current Drain (4.8V): 8.8mA/idle and 350mA no load operating
Current Drain (6.0V): 9.1mA/idle and 450mA no load operating
Dead Band Width: 4 usec
Motor Type: 3 Pole Ferrite
Potentiometer Drive: Indirect Drive
Bearing Type: Dual Ball Bearing
Gear Type: All Metal Gears
Connector Wire Length: 11.81" (300mm)
Dimensions: 1.59" x 0.77"x 1.48" (40.6 x 19.8 x 37.8mm)
Weight: 1.94oz. (55.2g)

May I know what is the possible reason causing this? Should it be the motor driving overload? Anyone can support me about this?

Not familiar with that particular servo, and not really use SC16A before.

Well.... it might be programming, it might power 8-) A video showing the result should be helpful.

from my exp, if your motor are connected to the load, it may be overloading...or there are some jamming in the gear system...good luck!

u can try to use dc geared motor as a servo if you deal with a massive torque...

some servo has over torque protection where it cut off when over torque, and on back in a short while. so on and off will cause the servo shaking. try to unload the servo see if it still shaking.
thanks&regards,

Hi,

Thanks for all the comments. I will post up video this week for better understanding. And also I will remove all the loads and test it again.
