MDDS30 Fan current.

Postby Fettler » Sat Apr 29, 2023 10:06 pm

Hi. I would like to use a larger fan, or even 2, to cool the controller. I wont be fitting it in the place provided but above, directly to the fins
Does anyone know the max safe current on this 5V fan output?

My Rover is 24v. It may be better if I just use the 5v fan pins as logic and use a logic switch for a 24v fan.

Usually a fan is not needed if the motor current is within the specification of the motor driver.
If you prefer to use one, you may consider to use this fan:

The maximum current for the fan is only 500mA, higher power fan is not recommended.
Or like you suggest, you may use the 24V fan connected directly to the power input.
With the power of dream, nothing is impossible...

Thanks,
I did use 2 fans; the total current should be 300ma maximum. It does occasionally cut in but as you say, not very often. They draw air out the top of the box with a guide over the fins and there is a vent in underneath the MDDS to direct air over the mosfets.
