[Help] UIC00B in-circuit serial programming failed

Postby ursular » Mon Sep 06, 2010 3:30 pm

Hi all,

I have a problem when trying the ICSP function of UIC00B with PIC16F877A, and I hope can get some hints and suggestions from you. When I connect my target board with UIC00B, I got the message box saying "PICKIt 2 VPP voltage level error. Check target & retry operation." It was mentioned in the troubleshooting section in the manual that no capacitor should be connected with MCLR pin of the PIC, but a 0.1uF capacitor was used in the figure on p.36.

As I do not have electronic background, I do not really understand the purpose of using the capacitor... and I cannot thus know whether I need the capacitor or not... In addition, do I need to connect the RB3/PGM pin to the ground (it was mentioned in one of the example PR7_DD.pdf)?

Many thanks if anyone can help! :)

hi,

there are 4 pins necessary, Gnd, PGD, PGC, and MCLR needed to be connected.
Vcc is optional depending whether u have power supply to ur PIC.
MCLR will be fetched with a voltage up to 12v, so be careful that there are no other component connect to it unless u have diode to block it. PGM is not necessary for ICSP using UIC00B.

hope this info do help u. remember the GND must be connected together.

Yup, if you put high capacitance component at MCLR/VPP pin, the program loading process will fail....

Make sure your ICSP pin is connected correctly :)
