hi,

u need to power up the SK40C, with adaptor.
powering from the Pickit3 probably useless because the vdd line on the IDC socket on SK40C is not connected to the PIC.
this is to prevent user accidently setting higher voltage than 5V to the board from the programmer which might cause damages.

Sab WROTE:Thank you yonghui, now working well.

Mind to share a photo of the setup? Want to see how you interface PICkit 3 with SK40C. I am using SK40C with UIC00B. Are you using Cytron's UIC-A, the adapter to convert the ICSP? Or use jumpers to do so? 8-) Thanks in advance :D

Hi robosang,

Yes, i'm using UIC-A adapter, the pickit3 connected to UIC-A adapter (pickit In), 10pin IDC socket connected to sk40c icsp socket.
The sk40c need to use external power supply, im using teletron tmc500pm bought from cytron ac-dc adapter 6v setting.
you can use jumper also. 8-) no problem its working fine.
On mplab go to Programmer---select programmer---i used pickit3--Programmer (once again)---setting---Power--tick Power target circuit pickit3---5V.

i think pickit 3 got the feature checking the board power. the board will need external supply becoz the vdd from pickit3 is not connected to the board. and the the mplab setting need to be set that the pickit 3 is powering the board, else it will detect the board voltage is zero and give error, becoz board vdd is not connected to the pickit 3 vdd pin.

hence, both the external supply to board and pickit3's supply need to on.

Hi,

pickit3 Error msg:

PK3Err0040: The target device is not ready for debugging.
Please check your configuration bit settings and program
the device before proceeding.

How to solve it?

Which MPLAB version are you using? In your current MPLAB IDE, goto Configure > Select Device, then choose the chip you're using. Do you see Green color dot for PICkit3 at Debuggers section? If no, it's not or not fully supported. Please install the latest one and try again.
