DC geared motor torque

Postby kodcyky » Wed Feb 03, 2010 9:53 am

Hi,
I noticed that the rated torque for all dc geared motor is in mN-m unit, which is quite small. The rated torque is running torque or stall torque?
Which dc geared motor is suitable for a 5kg 2 wheel RF controlled self balancing robot?

5kg? I think can consider this one, http://www.cytron.com.my/viewProduct.php?pid=LTcbMBE8GjoMFRUXMCAWCADjeUEnd7JKEuJSKoNS3Jw=&store=.

I think is stall torque.

One amazing mini balancing robot done by Cytron recently. Take a look.

Can the Cytron mini balancing robot move up a 30 degree slope?

With 5kg, at 30deg, the robot has a gravitational force of 24.5N. Depends on wheel size, say you have a wheel size of 40mm diameter, the holding torque require is 24.5*40/2 = 490 Nmm

Since you will be using 2 motors, so the holding torque is 245 Nmm. Bare in mind this is just holding torque. To balance a robot on incline surface, you will need more than that.
