Controlling 2 Actuators

Postby n00b » Wed Dec 01, 2010 11:47 am

Hello,
Good day to all,
May i have a suggestion on setup to control two actuators with below specs:-
-12vdc or 24vdc
-max amp 2.5

My planning is using sd21 and sabertooth 2x25...
Please suggest me other solution/board that suitable(cost effective)...
How about if using USB to TTL Serial Cable and connect to sabertooth?

Thank you.

Not really know what is SD21, if you are using 2.5A max, why don use MD10B which is much more cheaper compare to sabertooth 2x25. Even the 2x10A also cheaper than that...

thank you for your fast reply...
sd21 is servo controller board...
2x10 also in my consideration...

if i want to use the md10 or md30...
what other things that i need to have?
other option besides the PR10 control board?

below is the actuator that i will use:-
http://www.timotion.tw/doc/actuator/TA2.pdf
-code B(240N max load)

sorry if my question is confusing...
i don't have the knowledge about electronic..

Agreed with Ober and you, the question is very confusing 8-)
Your servo controller board is RC servo or Industrial Servo? Any description about it?

MD10 and MD30 is Cytron product? They have too many product.... really cannot explore all

Anyway you can do your own board instead of buying the DIY set, the PR10 should be one of their DIY project, correct? I mostly customize my own controller. Previous I solder everything myself, but since Cytron offer SK40, I uses those a lot.

Allright, aim of this project is controlling 2 actuator.

Let's say i have the actuator, and i want to control the actuator speed and direction using pc. What item/board needed to make this project happen?

Googled, most of them using 2 board, one for control(pwm) and one is h-bridge.
Need suggestion for control board and h-bridge..

Thank you.

From PC?

Then you need some interface to send command to the external board, most common and straight forward, yet cheapest is to serial COM Port. You can get yourself a USB to UART converter, Cytron should have, can't remember the name.

Connect the UART to microcontroller's UART, and the microcontroller will control the motor driver and further control the actuator.

PC ---- USB to UART ---- MCU ---- Motor driver ---- actuator

Of course, that is only the hardware, on the software, you will need to develop the code on microcontroller to get command from UART, and decide what to do to control the motor driver.
