ENCODER FUNCTION HELP!

hello,
can anyone tell me how the encoder works in the DC GEARED MOTOR WITH ENCODER SPG 30-30K?
and how the encoder giving signal to the motor for position the motor?
really appreciated ur help! tq..

I found 2 links that explain how the encoder works here

Instead of using PCB drawn patterns, the cytron motor uses magnetic hall effect sensor which works the same. The older wheeled mouse also use the same principle but using a slotted wheel and iR sensor to detect movement.
