specifying a DC motor

Postby kong » Mon Oct 17, 2011 9:07 pm

hi, i'm a noob on motor, would appreciate your advice on how to specify/select a DC motor (or may be other more suitable motor) for my project.

i'm trying to do an elevator that can carry about a 1kg load. height is about 1m. constant speed - say 1m per minute, only up & down with limit switch on both ends, no need precise stopping in the middle, so i though may be a DC motor will do the job.

problem is i don't know how to calculate the parameters and choose/size a suitable motor, what torque lah, RPM lah, gear ratio lah, stall current lah, wa lao, i blur liao. could you give me a tip or may be where can help a complete motor noob learn...? i've already tried to google for info but still quite blur... electronics & controller are easier for me. oops:

thank you in advance,

1kg is quite heavy for motor to pull.

Personally, I do not calculate all those parameters too. Usually I will choose the highest torque motor within my budget. :D
