Need help about rotating a specimen above a stepper motor

Postby alexzhen » Thu Feb 23, 2012 10:00 pm

My project is to rotate a specimen weighing around 5kg on top of a stepper motor (NOT horizontally) at 6 rpm. Do i need to consider the motor torque for such operation? Being told by my supervisor that motor torque is not an issue for a vertical arrangement, i just need to check whether the motor shaft could support the 5kg weight, however i am here to confirm this before i do the purchase from Cytron. Thus do i actually need to concern about the motor torque? If not, regarding the shaft ability to turn a 5kg weight specimen, which stepper motor is more suitable? Minebea or Linix. Please reply sooner as this is very urgent for me, any help would be very very very much appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Well, the torque for stepper motor is listed in their product page. It is up to you to decide which one is suitable as difference mechanism/mounting in application will lead to difference result.
