How to control motor using computer

Postby Newbie007 » Wed Aug 15, 2012 6:20 am

Hi all,i need a help about my project that using a motor and rfid...referring to the image/file that i attach,i will use the motor as a gate..the problem here is i dont know what hardware to use so that i can connect the motor with computer.FYI iam new in this field...so i really hope that you can list me what kind of hardware and type of motor that can i use...

the condition of the project consist two that is...
1-the gate(motor) will on/run/open when the computer/database detect the user via Rfid
2-the gate(motor) can on/run/open manually using computer..

please i really need your help...thank you..

Use PIC.
PIC can be interface to DC motor and interface to laptop by USB-to-UART. RFID also can be interface to the PIC. So, just need one connection from device to laptop.

Example project using magnetic lock to laptop. The magnetic lock can be change to DC Motor.

thanks Yonghui . . so arduino also can control the motor right? between arduino and PIC which one is easier to use and learn ?

i think for beginner to microcontroller, Arduino is quite simple.
u do not need to read the datasheet. but reading the library reference by arduino to write program. there are sample program provided also. if u dont need to control the speed of motor. u can used relay to turn on and off motor too (for Brush motor)

for PIC u need to read datasheet. and get start with some sample code.
thanks&regards,

Mr Yonghui accroding to the picture that i attach..i got an information that i can control the movement of the motor(gate) step by step by using the stepping motor..is that true??

here is the condition that i want for my project . .

1 condition
-The motor(gate) will automatically move from 1-2-3-2-1 (close and open) when the RFID detect the data(card)

2 condition
-i can manually control the motor(gate) from 1-2-3 and 3-2-1,(close and open) by using computer..

and if i using the stepping motor..do i need another motor driver ??
