Can i directly connect dc motor to Arduino Uno v3 board ??

Postby alung92 » Thu Aug 21, 2014 1:15 pm

Hi, i purchased a DC Geared Motor (SPG30-60K), can i just directly connect to Arduino Uno Rev3-Main Board?
i heard my friend said that if refer to their experience, to run a motor it required a relay and a motor driver board something to active the dc motor. Because the voltage is too low to run a motor .

I don't dare to try it myself, i scare it will damage the main board.

i intend to run a motor using timer setting and able to clockwise and anticlockwise the rotation of the motor.

can u guide me what should i do ? is that all can done it in programming ? i still a newbie

Unfortunately the answer is NO.

Since you are using Arduino Uno, you can get the motor driver shield. The easiest way is to get Cytron's 2A Motor Shield, or any other motor shield in the market.

However, you can always solder a simple relay circuit if you only need the motor to rotate cw/ccw without speed control. Using L293D motor driver chip is also an option.
