MD10C R3 and rs550 DC motor

Hello,

I have connected MD10C R3 board ( http://www.robotshop.com/uk/cytron-13a- ... oller.html ) TO
RS550 motor ( http://www.robotshop.com/uk/rs-550-moto ... oz-in.html ) and provided 12 V power supply to the MD10C R3 board .

Inspite of this , when I start testing the motor rotation by pressing button A, the motor seems to just vibrate and the motor A light seems to blink. If I hold the button A pressed for long duration, this behaviour continues. When I keep button B pressed, the motor seems to vibrate only once and motor B light seems to blink just once. It does not repeatedly vibrate or blink like when button A is pressed

Can you please guide me on how to get the motors working correctly ? I hope to control it from raspberry pi

I have checked the input power voltage and without the connected motor the board motor A and motor B light seems to be turn on when I press button A and button B receptively . With other DC motors ( low current ones) the MD10C seems to work fine.

Thanks
rdd

Hi rdd,

I have check the motor, it is quite powerful. I guess the power supply don't have enough power to supply the start up current (draw by the motor). Could you try directly connect the motor to the power supply? Look at the startup current (if have).

Dear rdd,

I've checked the spec for your motor and sorry to inform you that the MD10C couldn't handle the current rating of your motor.
The peak current that the MD10C can handle is only 30A and your motor stall current can go up to 77A.

Just like what Idris has highlighted, your power supply couldn't supply the current required by the motor to start up. Even if you change the power source to a more capable one, you may burn the MD10C too.

So my recommendation is to change the power source to a bigger power supply or battery and also the motor driver to higher amp rating such as the MD30C (http://www.robotshop.com/uk/30a-5-30v-s ... river.html)
