MD10C heating up in minutes after powering it up.

Postby tangapan » Thu Apr 13, 2023 11:09 am

Yesterday I bought a Cytron MD10C to connect it to a DC pump (24V, approximately 1 A) with an adapter supplying the board 24V 2.5 A. I left the MD10C on for a few minutes with and hardly tured on the motor. The driver quickly heated up even though it was idle and pump was not pulling any current.

I want the board to run for a couple of hours at a stretch. Im now thinking of adding a relay that will turn on the driver only when I want to power on the motor. But is this expected behaviour? I was under the impression that the board shouldnt heatup, especially considering Im supplying it a fraction of the ampere it is rated to handle?

It’s expected as the heat is from the linear voltage regulator especially when using 24V. It should not have any problem to run it for a few hours in a stretch.
