The datasheet says the Vgs of IRL520 is +/- 10V while IRF520 is +/-20V. You might try with IRF520 (easy to get) and see if additional level shifter is required.

If not working you can get it here

rs malaysia has them also. http://malaysia.rs-online.com/web/c/?sr ... 0&x=13&y=7 as long as you order online, the shipping fees is waived. =)

You must use IRL520? What about IRFZ48N? Usually I use it to drive motor. Although the VDSS is only 55V compared to 100V for IRF520, the RDS(ON) is much much lower at only 14mOhm. The lower the better so that the mosfet dissipates little power. Of course there are more parameters that you need to look into before you choose this IRFZ48N...it's just a suggestion if you can't get IRL520 easily.

The difference between IRL520 with IRF520 and IRFZ48N is not the Rds(on). it is the Vgs(th) . IRL520 is a logic-gate level MOSFET and it can turn ON and OFF within logic level of 0-5V. If you see the datasheet IRL520 has Vgs(th) of 1-2V while IRFZ48N is 2-4V. What I read from another forum is that Vgs(th) is the voltage between Gate and Source when the MOSFET begins to conduct but not saturate. That is not good for the MOSFET to be used as a switch because 2-4V is at its linear part of its curve where Rds(on) is not at its minimum.
