Can PIR sensor detects animal?

i've a question, whenever the animal cross by the area that PIR sensor can sense (in the datasheet it has range approx to 5meters), can the PIR sensor sense the present of animal?

anyone know?

Basically yes, as long as the animal emit enough of infrared light, PIR sensor can.
