That is possible, but to implement it to working, you will still need to try it out.

Bare in mind, the sensor of RE08A is digital sensor, it can only tell you there is obstacle in the middle of slot, or the slot is free from obstacle. It cannot tell you the height of obstacle if that is important to you. So you can use this sensor to differentiate the what type of coin.

I dont think there is any sensor that is made to sense "Malaysian coins" on the market. These kind of coin sensors are usually custom made to suite each appliance / equipment. For example in one type of Public Phones called Tamura, made in Japan, the sensors are hall effect transistors. But even so, it cannot differential between Malaysian coins or Singapore coins or Brunei coins.

I dont know what type of sensors are used in the machines selling coca cola or the video arcade machines or the slot machines in casinos. But you'll never find an ATM machine that will accept coins.....cause I think they are no so fool-proof.

Below is a quote from "how a vending machine works"
When you insert a coin, it rolls past a series of electromagnets (coils of wire with electricity running through them). These electromagnets create an electromagnetic energy field. Any metal object - like a coin - will disturb this field. Quarters, pennies, dimes, nickels and fake coins affect the field differently, because they are made up of different metals and vary in thickness. Depending on how the field changes, the coin mech knows what kind of coin you inserted. It sorts the good coins into different stacks and tells the computer how much money you've put in.
