Sensor suggestion

Postby tylim » Fri Apr 06, 2012 5:48 pm

hi there

i need to sense, for example, a waste truck, whether it is empty or not

which kind of sensor is suitable?

what i got in my mind is an ultrasonic sensor, but as we know, the waste truck container is thick, i don't know the sensor is powerful enough or not

Please suggest a suitable sensor and state the reasons why :?:

thank you

What about taking the weight of the rubbish. How much weight can a 10-ton truck carry?

May be you can use straight line light beams (laser) installed horizontally near the roof of the truck at 4 or 5 positions. If 80% of the light beams are block, the truck is considered full. The problem is what kind of photo sensors can detect laser beams.

hmm, my case is very similar to the waste truck case

the container is a closed space, and the container is thick, and i am not allowed to access the container, so i don't think that the photo sensor will do the trick :|

how about a pressure sensor/ weight sensor that weights ur load?

When an empty load, it will weight certain weight, and with full/ half load, it will produce some weight. Acceptable?
