How to detect if DS18B20 is permanently damaged?

Postby cfsam » Fri Nov 30, 2012 6:27 pm

Hi,

Previously I have done a stupid mistake by connecting my DS18B20 to wrong polarity. It turns really hot and then only I realised the mistake. When i switched it back, it is still functioning. However few days later, the reading obtained from the sensor keep showing -127 degree C. I am wondering if it is permanently damaaged? How can I check?

Thanks. Please help. Need it urgent.
Thanks once again.

Do you have a new one? Use it and see the result? Most likely the old one is gone.

No i only have one. That thing is too expensive compared to LM35. Anyway..just out of curiosity, can I use digital pin 0 or 1 as the input for my one wire? Because I tried to do it before but somehow it failed. I wonder issit my coding problem or it is just impossible to do it.

Have you successfully read the sensor??

yep~ but previously using digital pin 3, 2, 11 but later wan to use it at pin 1 or 0...it is to no avail~

So now just change it back to previous uses pin, pin 3, 2 or 11 to check whether the sensor is working. I don see why pin 1 or 0 cannot be used.

BTW, are you using Arduino? Pin 0 and pin 1 is UART pin and is use for loading program. You might want to disconnect the sensor when you load program.
