Any recommended sensor or device?

Any recommended sensor or device? Any sensor can differentiate material such as paper and plastic?
Something like a sensor detect this is paper then connect to micro-controller and active output 1, detect plastic then active output2.
Is it possible to do ? because based on my research on capacitive proximity sensor which detect based on non-metal material, but connect with DC input and Output is DC. Which just Detected non-metal material , output is active. Need your advise. Thanks
