PIC Programmer Error

Postby winson27 » Tue Apr 03, 2012 11:59 am

Target power not detected - Powering from PICkit 2 ( 5.00V) PK2Error0024: PICkit 2 was unable to establish a valid Vdd on the target (Attempted 5.00V - Read 0.20V) This happens on 1 of my programmer as I bought 2 of them, another one is working normally. MPLAB IDE is used to burn.

well, I guess it might be the UIC00B/programmer problem. But I am using MPLAB IDE and PICkit 2 Programmer software too. MPLAB IDE have extra setting which detect the VDD of target PIC, you may disable that. One easy way to verify it to use PICkit2 Programmer GUI to load program. If that work fine, it means that the setting in MPLAB IDE is have extract checking on VDD line and prevent the program loading to work.

You should take a look at this thread.

Try to use pickit 2 software instead of MPLAB to program your PIC and see if it works.
May be it's a component problem inside.

I tried out with PICkit 2 Programmer, after I click on check communication, it shows "PICkit 2 connected. ID = UIC00B V1.0", but when I try to read the device, it shows "No device detected".

Was it still under warranty? If it was, I wouldnt try to repair it myself. Just fill in the form from Cytron site and the maintenance team there will call you and tell you what to do.

It is most probably a hardware fault or the OS inside is corrupted. Did you try to reload back the OS?

If you're brave enough to repair it yourself, the schematics for reference is here

Dont ask me how to repair, cause I've not done it before.

I am not sure whether it's still under warranty or not. I bought it on 28th March.
Discuss till now but still don't get any exact response or action from them.
I tried out with the update solution, but it helps nothing, anyway thanks for your suggestion.

I used the PICKIT2 for maybe 1 1/2 years, after that, spurious errors increased more and more.
Sometimes I even had trouble connecting to the PICKIT2.
I guess maybe I latched up some transistors. I replaced two of them, but also this was only a short time relief.

Then I bought a PICKIT3.

Ever since then, I never had any problems, connecting to the PICKIT3, updating the OS,
or getting the device ID from the PIC.

It's of course not the best advice when you just bought the PICKIT2, to buy a PICKIT3.
There are clones of the PICKIT2 on eBay, well as for me, it did not work out,
since I normally power circuits using the PICKIT3, sometimes for days.
The PICKIT3 has NTCs built in, and different design.
If you only use external power supply, then maybe also the PICKIT2 is OK.

I just write my experience, I had countless attempts to connect via USB, and also getting just the device ID.
